Talk Title: Students’ understanding of chemistry concepts in the context of multirepresentational instruction: Focusing on transfer and metacognition
Emine Adadan is a Professor in Mathematics and Science Education Department at Bogazici University. She received her B.S. (1995) in chemistry education from Marmara University, Turkey, and then she worked as a chemistry teacher for four years in Istanbul. She was awarded with a full scholarship by Turkish Ministry of Education to complete her gradutate studies in abroad. She earned her M.A. (2002) and then her Ph.D. (2006), both of which in Science Education from the Ohio State University, USA. Her research involves students’ understanding of chemistry concepts, conceptual change learning, multiple representations in chemistry instruction, metacognitive awareness in teaching and learning of science, and teacher education, including pedagogical content knowledge development and e-portfolios for promoting reflective practice.
Prof. Adadan was awarded with Excellence in Research in Social Sciences by Bogazici University Foundation in 2017. She has also published several articles in professional refereed journals such as Journal of Research in Science Teaching, Journal of Teacher Education, International Journal of Science Education, and Research in Science Education. She is currently an editorial board member of Journal of Science Teacher Education and International Journal of Science Education.
